Somebody's managed to get their hands on a promotional poster revealing the complete new Mechanicus range, including the new cult admech!
The new unreleased Cult Mechanicus appear alongside the Skitarii in what appears to be a combined offering. GW have been moving in a direction of multiple books for a long time but this appears to be the first time different parts of the same army appear in different books entirely.
Personally I am not soild on the clunky big bipedal robots or the tracked ones in the middle. The aesthetics seam to be too bulky compared with the rest of the range. Will wait to see better pictures however. Thankfully, Forgeworld do direct alternates to them.
There here. New Codex and Datacards. Three new variants
375 points before upgrades... They aint no Wraithknight...
Weapon rules are average. Nothing the FW variants didnt accomplish. No Strength D quake cannon either. Very disapoint!
At least the model is nice.
And the much rumoured new brush range. Doubt they will be anywhere near as good as a Raphael or W&N. Looking at the brush range in this image they appear to be very focused on drybrushing. I expect the next few WD will introduce a series of tutorials on how to use the "revolutionary" new range of brushes...
Three new Knight Variants, rumoured to be the Galant, Crusader, and Warden. These are all names that older players who dabbled in Epic/Titans in the 90's would remember fondly.
Traditionally a Knight Crusader is a long range weapon platform with two main weapons, a twin linked lascannon and a Quake cannon (think Strength D artillery). This time around it appears to have a Quake cannon (on the right) and the battlecannon from the Paladin/Errant as seen in the image above.
I can find very little on the Knight Warden's armament, but they appear to be pilots who are no longer in their prime, or ready to retire. Slower than a regular pilot but with more experience and wisdom, they are charged with defending the Knights household. I believe they will have the power fist/Quake cannon armament as in the first picture.
I can find nothing on the Knight Galant, but I do remember something from my time playing Epic. Pretty sure these where dedicated close combat Knights hence the chainsword and powerfist combo fitting.
What I do find interesting is the image profiles. They appear to be based on the Paladin/Errant chassis, however with a different carapace. I would expect to see the original sprues supplemented with a new one with the three new weapon systems, and new carapace + accessories. It will be interesting to see if the carapace mounted missile launcher will be reconnected as a n option on the Paladin and Errant.
Also rumoured to be coming is a new Codex for the Knights and new Datacards for the first time.
With these additional new variants, and rules it appears Knights will be making the jump to a much more rounded and balanced force. I expect to see upgrades, wargear and ranks for all the knights similar to what is found in Book IV of the Horus Heresy! Alongside the imminent Warlord Titan release, this is going to be an expensive month for me...
This weeks White Dwarf cover has leaked revealing the much rumoured new Assassin's board game from Games Workshop, aptly named Execution Force. It is said to be a complete standalone board game which includes the four assassins pictured, plus a bunch of victims for them to assassinate. No word on pricing but sounds like a fun little board game at first glance...
Had my first few games of Star Wars Armada over the weekend, and I must say, what a refreshing change of pace. No models to paint, quick easy to learn rules, oh and Star Destroyers!
We played a few out of the box games to learn the rules them went for a 300 point engagement
Here I have a Victory I class with no upgrades and a Victory II class Captained by Grand Moff Tarkin, and upgraded to have an Ion Cannon. Hellrider made an appearance too.
Opposite me is some Rebel Scum. My swarm of Tie fighters take early dominance of the theater by killing off half the X Wings in support early, and engaging the rest whilst I bring about the pointy end of the Star Destroyers.
1 volley later, and the Victory II class obliterates a blockade runner!
The Victory I class closes to short range and lets loose with concussion missles, whilst combined firepower from Grand Moff Tarkin and his ability to issue special fleet wide orders allows me to swarm the support frigates with Tie fighters.
The last Blockade runner with Lea on attempts to break out but is swamped with Tie fighters. The Star Destroyers bring about broadsides to finish her off.
The aftermath. The heavily damaged Victory I almost leaves the table edge but comes to a halt just in time.
I have to say I am sold. Can't wait for the ISD to be released!
The question remains, is this a full replacement Codex or a supplement Codex to sit alongside...
New Farseer/Warlock/Autach jetbike kit. Looks almost the same as the old one except the stance of the rider is leaning forward like their Dark Eldar bretheren
New Autarch on foot (wings)
New Jetbike squadron. Aparently there will also be Shining Spears released in Finecast. Nobody is talking yet wether they will be the old models re-released or an upgrade to suit the new forward leaning jetbikes
Hmm. This Skitarii faction of the Mechanicum is looking nicer all the time. I remember reading about the Skitarii for the first time in Horus Heresy: Mechanicum
These models are living up to how I imagined them
Apparently we will get a HQ and Dune Walker next week, and then in a few months the Adeptus Mechanicus will get a full release!
